RISSE Fundraising Events

There are remarkable things happening at the Emmaus Church on West Lawrence St. (across the street from the Madison Ave Price Chopper) Many English classes for refugees and immigrants and activities for children - etc. Check it out and perhaps you would like to attend one of the remaining two fund raising events. I hope you are enjoying this weather!

You are receiving this email either because your students are involved with the Refugee and Immigrant Support Services of Emmaus (RISSE), or because you have expressed an interest in becoming involved. I know a few of you were kind enough to let me speak to your students but have no direct connection to RISSE, so if you would like to be removed from this list, please let me know and I will understand.

Here are the dates of some upcoming events related to RISSE:

1)      Monday, February 27th, 7:15 PM:
I will be showing the award-winning documentary "Pray the Devil Back to Hell". The film follows women in Liberia as they work to bring peace to their country. The event will include a brief discussion after the film, and will be held in the sanctuary library.
2)      Friday, March 23rd:
21+ benefit concert at Savannah's, a bar located at 1 South Pearl Street. Doors open at 8:30 PM, and the night will feature 3 bands, two of which are composed solely of Saint Rose students. All proceeds will benefit RISSE. $5 cover fee.
3)      Friday, April 13th:
"Rhythms for RISSE", a fundraising event for RISSE, will take place on-campus at the Massry Center for the Arts and will consist of three parts:
a)      At 6:30 PM, the event will kick off with a silent auction, through which you can silently write down "bids" for items including gift certificates to Junior's, Albany Massage Therapists, ISmile Studios, etc.; tickets for the Albany Aqua Ducks tour, Story Circle events at Proctor's, concerts at Northern Lights, etc.; merchandise such as CDs from cellist Jami Sieber, items from the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame, a week of horseback-riding lessons for a child at Schauber Stables, etc. The auction will continue during the intermission of the concert.
b)      At 7 PM, a world music concert will begin in the Picotte Recital Hall, featuring music from countries represented at RISSE (mainly Asian, African, and Middle Eastern). Performers will include Saint Rose students and faculty, RISSE staff members, storytellers from Children at the Well, and various community musicians.
c)       There will be a reception in the lobby directly following the performance.
***Suggested donation for tickets is $5 with a student ID, $10 without. Please contact Carolyn to order tickets in advance***

If you have any questions, or can donate anything for the auction, please let me know. I've attached a donations request letterhead with more information.

Thank you,
Carolyn Stallard
