something fun!! CANA 35th Anniversary Dinner - 10/16/11

  • Why isn't there a highway running under Washington Park?
  • Why is there a public comment period at City Council meetings?
  • Why are City officials responsive to our calls?
  • Why City officials come to our neighborhood association meetings?
Come to the Dinner and learn about the history of the Council of Albany Neighborhood Associations (CANA) and Albany.

Dear Neighbors,

This is a friendly reminder that time is running out to save $5.00 on
the CANA 35th Anniversary dinner if you are coming in pairs as the price
for a couple goes from $55 to $60 on October 1.  I hope to see you
there.  See announcement below for full details.

Thanks

Howie Stoller

Suspects arrested in recent Forest Ave burglaries

Albany police have charged two women and one man in connection with two August burglaries and believe they are connected to four other residential burglaries in the region.
On August 12 police responded to a burglary in progress at 76 Forest Avenue at 4:20 a.m.  The victim, 95 years old, was sleeping at the time of the incident when she woke up and noticed two people in the hallway with flashlights.  When the two suspects saw the victim they fled out of the house.  The suspects were able to steal money, a credit card and several pieces of jewelry before fleeing.
On August 18 detectives identified Jasmine Griffin, 20, of 217 Spruce Street, as one of the suspects when she was caught with two stolen items from the Forest Avenue burglary.  A search of her house also turned up a .22 caliber handgun.  She was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th.    She was arraigned and remanded to Albany County Jail.

Graffiti

Hi,

Just to let you know there has been a rash of graffiti incidents on Delaware , New Scotland Ave and other various areas in the city over the last one day. At the last unofficial count, there were approximately 36 incidents. If anyone knows anything or witnessed  anything unusual over night please call the APD at 438-4000. We do have some good leads on this unfortunate situation. Please be extra vigilant!

I would like to commend the graffiti buster crew for taking care of the unfortunate rash of graffitis in and around the neighborhood. They responded early this morning and cleaned up the businesses around Ontario and NSA. If anyone is aware of other graffiti that hasn't been noticed and/or taken care of  please call DGS 434-CITY  and the Police at 438-4000 so that this is taken care of in a timely fashion . i will keep you updated with any arrests that follow. Again, kudos goes out to out Graffiti Crew that work real hard at their job which probably many times goes unnoticed.

Parking in front of New Scotland Elementary

Hello All,

As the school year begins, I have received complaints about the parking ifo the school at dismissal. The complaints are from the school officials as well as the parents. I know the options are limited as where to park but please be concerned for the safety of the children as well as the motorists who have to evade the double parkers AND possibly the children who are trying to cross the road. Please make arrangements to park your car a block or two away and meet your child/children at the corner. Unfortunately, I may have to start issuing tickets to the offenders but when it comes to safety ifo the school that becomes the priority in our neighborhood.

Thanks ~ Loren Grugan
